Angkor Wat

Our first stop on the second day of temple tramping.

Stone Lion and Cobra-head railing.  It seems that these lions and cobras were systematically destroyed.

These two are some of the best preserved specimens, and even they have their faces smashed in.

No matter how decayed and destroyed, Buddha statues are always worth propping up and making into a small shrine.

We saw several wedding parties on the grounds of Angkor Wat.

Along the outer terrace wall of Angkor Wat.

A small outer building along the main stone walkway.

Inside the lower ring of Angkor Wat.

It's good luck to rub the boobs of these ladies, hence their shiny polish.

The central building is accessible only by steep, treacherous stairways.

Angkor Wat, East central grounds.

Everywhere, a grab-bag of decay and well-preserved carving.

Goodbye, Angkor Wat.

Hello, Lara Croft Tomb Raider™ Temple.

Also known as Ta Prohm.

The outer grounds dissolve into jungle.

Renovation still under way.  Seemingly, just to make the place less of an iminent cave-in threat.

Here a giant tree is eating a wall.

Suzy.

Emergency Face Smudge Cleaning Operation.

Several trees ganging up to eat a wall.

Dazed and confused.

Even amidst all the ruin and rot, well-preseved ladies.

I actually saw Lara Croft Tomb Raider™  In the theatre.

At the time, I thought, "What a lousy movie.  But it had some cool art direction."

Oh.  It's real.

Suzy is knocking over some more of the temple.

Suzy. Rubble.

That's not an octopus grabbing Sarah, it's a tree.

Yep.

Yep.

Parts of the temple are still in heaps of unreconstructed rubble. Temple stones seem to be categorized in order of size.

Goodbye, Lara Croft Tomb Raider™ Temple.

Mr. Soth drives us back to town.

A moped can carry five Cambodians, so this one is just over half full.
